"I feel tell tale signs should have been picked up"

About: Harmoni / NHS 111 NHS England London

(as the patient),

I called because I felt very dizzy, just randomly, and was not sure what to do and remembered about the 111 service.

I discussed my symptoms with the nurse who answered, she advised me to go and see my GP. I explained that I was alone at home and feeling dizzy and disorientated and went through all the symptoms again and was again advised to see my GP. I feel tell tale signs should have been picked up; the distress signals were not being picked up. Some follow through should have happened. I should add that at no point was my call treated unprofessionally.

I would have expected the nurse to maybe co-ordinate with the surgery for someone to come and see me at home. In the worst case scenario I could have been having a stroke.

After the call I phoned my GP surgery but they were not able to see me for another 7 working days.

In the meantime I went to a walk in centre where I was seen by a doctor after a 3-4 hour wait. My blood pressure was taken but no diagnosis or treatment was given and I was referred to my GP. This was a waste of my time and NHS money – very disappointing as a tax payer.

I have now had my appointment with my GP and have stared a course of medication.

I’m not sure what value the 111 service or walk in centres have if they are going to refer me to my GP anyway. My greater disappointment was with the walk-in centre - not value for money!
