"well i took my 1 and a half year ..."

About: King's Mill Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

well i took my 1 and a half year old daughter to the robin hood ward at 730am in the morning as she had a mri scan and had to be sedated so i was told not to give her any food up to 7 hours before or drink 5 hours before she wouldnt wake up in the night so she hadnt ate anything from 6pm the day before a nurse came round and took a few details eventually around 9am we was taken over to blandy ward with 3 other children and there parents who was also having a mri scan they said she was going to be sedated around 11 so we sat there she was crying of starvation as people was eating there breakfast and we was in the room where they put the breakfast table and how do you tell a 1 year old she cant have any food we tried to take her mind of it but it didnt work it was 1200 and nobody had even came to see her so we asked when she would be going down as it was dinner time the other patients were eating she hadent had anything now for 18hours we decided enough was enough and we was going to go so we said to the nurse this isnt right you cant starve a one year old buy this time she was screaming the building down so she rang down to mri and they said they would see her in an hour so rather than going through it all again we decided to wait so half an hour later they sedated her and finally buy 1.30pm she had the mri which took 15 mins so she didnt have any food for nearly 20 hours which is torture for a one year old it caused alot of upset for her and us basically i dont get why they cant tell you the day before what time she would have bin going down then we know she can have food uptill that time as she could of had something to at at 7 in the morniing not wake her up at 3am n try and force food down her whilst shes half asleep also why you have to wait around on the ward when the nurses only speak to you once to make sure your details are correct that dont take half an hour so why you have to go in hours before to just sit around personally i think is just a waste

What could be improved

the nurses wear very nice on blandy ward and did agree its not right to starv a baby for that long it was mri who they was waiting on and they also agreed about giving you a time the day before so you know whn you are having the mri all in all i was just glad when my baby woke up so i could give her something to eat gosh did she gulp it down finally we was discharged around 4.30pm that was 9hours off waiting for a 15 min scan
