"Fantastic care!"

About: Royal Liverpool University Dental Hospital

I had a dull ache in my teeth for the past week (and had informed NHS 111 that my filling had fallen out previously - I wasn't severe enough for an emergency appointment) But something happened yesterday and I was in extreme pain overnight. Taking ibuprofen and paracetamol didn't touch the pain, so I spent the night with very little sleep. I rang NHS 111 and was told this time to go to Liverpool Dental Hospital and to get there for around 7.30am as the first 20 or so people got seen after the appointments. I got there at that time and was the first in the queue, but after speaking to people this is a rarity. The service is very efficient - from the first receptionist I saw, the security man, the x-ray reception, triage nurse and the dentists themselves. Also I loved how friendly and approachable everyone was - now this is an absolute rarity for dental surgeries! I always assume you have to have had "how to be horrible" classes to be a dentist or dental receptionist, but I cannot fault the service I received. Also the dentist was brilliant and talked me through the whole process. Her tutor (a professor) was on hand, and also other dentists were around for advice, support and guidance. The after care and guidance was brilliant too, and I came out of the hospital with lots of reassurance. All in all if they had a way for normal patients to attend I wouldn't think of going to any other surgery. Brilliant service!
