"cancellation in cardiology clinic 4"

About: King's Mill Hospital

I am currently having tests in clinic 4 for a serious hereditary heart condition. As I work full time I have to book any time off to come and have tests in this clinic. I was sent an appointment for an excersise test on Wednesday 19th March which I couldnt attend, I am unsure of the date I rang to rearrange but know it was around 10th March, when I was given Tue 25th March at 10.45 which gave me more time to book the day off work, I agreed to this date. At 9.30 am on the morning of the 25th March I received a phone call as I was getting ready to come to the clinic from a lady, I didnt get her name, from clinic 4 to say my test would not be going ahead as the girl who rearranged the test hadnt realised it had to be done with a doctor present, and there wasnt one available for this date! I asked when I could rearrange and was told she didnt know as the doctor was on nights so was unnable to be contacted untill next week, she said she would just make the appointment and send it out in the post, I explained that wasnt going to work for me and I need to work around my rota, she said there was nothing else she could do. I told her I was very unhappy as id booked the day off work. I said I understand its not her fault but the staff that work there should know if a doctor needs to be present before rearranging appointments, she said the girl did know but forgot, she said it was just human error and if I want to complain I should go to PALS, so I have, I am very unhappy as ive had a day off work for no reason, I dont believe for one minute that no one realised untill 9.30 am on the day of my test that a doctor wouldnt be available! Do people not check the diaries to see what appointments theyve got for the coming weeks? Im not buying into that one im afraid, if I had made a mistake like that in my job I would have serious consequences! How long am I expected to wait for an appointment to have this test done, I will have to keep phoning to change it so I can fit around my job, and whos to say this mistake wont be repeated? To say its a cardiology clinic there doesnt seem to be much urgency in getting people seen, the patients in there have come for a reason not a day out, there needs to be a better system in place for appointments before something serious happens to a patient before they have been seen.

Thank you for your message which has been forwarded to the Cardiorespiratory Manager who has expressed her apologies for your recent experience. She would like to reassure you that she has taken your comments on board and will discuss the management of these specific examinations, which require doctors to be present, with her colleagues.
