After an angiogram, despite having no symptoms, I was referred to a surgeon to replace my aortic valve.
The appointment and call to surgery were very timely and the surgeon was very direct about what needed to be done, which was encouraging. Information provided by the cardiac unit was very informative, as was the afternoon admission clinic.
The surgery went well and, after 24 hours in intensive care, I was back in the ward. The ward was clean and well staffed and it was encouraging to be with patients improving after similar surgery.
I was encouraged to get walking around as soon as I was able and, within the week, I was discharged. The surgeon had said the operation was routine (though not to me) and certainly the unit was run in a very professional way.
After the operation, I didn't have much appetite, which wasn't helped by the quality of the food - but what a minor thing after such a major operation and such wonderful staff.
