In Feb/March 2014 I made two scheduled visits to Cirencester Hospital. My first to Outpatients was entirely satisfactory, with good & helpful telephone contact beforehand that helped to deal with an issue. My follow-up appointment was for treatment at the Endoscopy Unit, where I cannot speak too highly of my experience. From arrival in reception, through pre-op. to the procedure itself, and finally recovery, I met with only friendly, helpful and reassuring treatment. The nursing staff were clearly efficient and competent - as was the doctor carrying out my Colonoscopy procedure. The environment was clean and smart, with one-to-one patient-centered care a clear priority; throughout my visit there was an unfussy & informal professionalism evident. Leading up to my appointment I had received clear & helpful leaflets from the Unit, together with all the preparatory kit; advice to deal with difficulties was thoughfully offered. Although no doubt more difficult to replicate in other areas of the service, this impressive Unit is a model of what the NHS as a whole should be like ... & of which we could justifiably be proud. (Last but not least, the parking, though at present somewhat limited, was unlike many other hospitals free; only right & proper as the NHS claims to be 'free at the point of entry'!)
