"Lucky to have a very caring and compassionate advocate"

About: Advocacy Support Cymru

(as a service user),

Advocacy is detrimental component of care on the psychiatric unit. Fortunately I was lucky to have a very caring and compassionate advocate, “Tracey”, on Ward 21 at Royal Glamorgan Hospital and “Alan” and “Louise” also had small input and did post discharge follow up.

The experience I underwent was integral to my care to ensure stress was reduced through open and private communication and section 3 and 11 care was explained by Tracey who had picked up on my anxiety in this area.

Fortunately this support resulted in a smooth transition back to the community and reinforced my experience in a positive manner to ensure all aspects of holistic care were addressed.

The system of advocacy reinforced contact with outside world re driving and sharing.

This underlines really well how advocacy can be helpful and we appreciate that you have taken the time to post this story. We will make sure that Tracy gets to see this (unfortunately Alan has now retired and Louise works for another organisation).
