"I was admitted as an emergency ..."

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was admitted as an emergency and was put in a private room as I was infectious. The staff on the ward were very reassuring, as I had never been admitted to hospital before.

What could be improved

Communication between the consultant and me: I never really knew what was wrong, and kept getting different bits of information from different people. The cannula in my arm got blocked and it killed.

Anything else?

I was admitted for an operation a couple of months later; again, there was a slight lack of communication about the complications that occurred. I was fine, however.

Thank you for taking the trouble to report back on your experiences at the RNTNEH. We're sorry that communication was not as good as it might have been. If you have similar problems in the future please ask to speak to the matron covering the area you are being treated in so that he or she can make sure you get the information you need.
