"Big Hospital with the feel of a small one!"

About: Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road Campus)

I had a retinal detachment fixed here in October last year and I have found the staff to be very professional and very caring all the way through. The operation was done under a local anasthetic which was initially an alarming thought for me, but they persuaded me that I would feel and see nothing during the operation except for, maybe, a little pressure on the eye at certain points in the operation. I am happy to say that I managed to remain calm and felt absolutely nothing. I am now discharged from the retina clinic but am under the care of the cataract team now that the expected cataract has made an appearance. I expect to be treated with the same high degree of care. Their appointments system is also worthy of a mention. Followup appointments were allocated as you left the clinic: I did not have to wait for a letter. I had cause to change an appointment. When I called, the phone was answered immediately and the change made over the phone instantly. Very efficient. Many other hospitals would do well to follow their example. And at the end of it, I am being treated by a world-fanous centre of excellence.
