"Ark Royal Ward"

My impression, as a relative of a frail elderly patient, is that the ward is run too much for the convenience of the staff and not the well-being of the patients. Some staff come across as officious and seem to view patients and relatives as an unnecessary inconvenience. The notices on the ward written by the Ward Manager, telling relatives that they are not allowed to visit on certain afternoons because of a Consultant ward round, is completely unacceptable; elderly patients are very likely to need a relative with them to ensure that their medical needs are met ( to aid confidentiality,relatives could reasonably be asked to wait outside a particular bay whilst doctors are doing a round, but to ban them from supporting their relative is appalling). Staff have also been officious about visiting times. Elderly patients may actually benefit from having relatives with them outside of visiting hours, for instance to help with eating.
