About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

(as the patient),

Anything else?

i have just had a conversation with one of your cleaners and theres NO wonder the hospital is full of bugs, they havent a clue not even the basics of how bugs spread, i had a comment ( who do they think we are telling us how to clean toilets ) AND we go to afternoon lectures sometime but we all go to sleep, after all what is there to learn about cleaning , well i was speechless , these cleaners are the most important staff in the hospital, its frightening , surely someone needs to address this now before more wards get shut down, this person i spoke to said she never changes her shoes when she gets home hasnt a clue why she shouldnt be wearing the same clothes she works in , infact we see all the time nurses out shopping in their uniforms after a shift a sure way to spread whatever around very quickly to the poor unsuspecting public , i dont usually do this sort of thing but its deadly what your allowing there

Our in-house team of cleaning services staff work hard to achieve high standards and all take part in annual infection control training updates and are trained to recognised national cleaning practice standards. Our uniform policy has recently been updated and relaunched.

We do encourage patients, visitors and staff to report their concerns at the time about any isolated incidents where cleaning standards may not meet their expectations. We want to be able to put them right straight way and have rapid response teams who are able to do this.

The comments of those using our hospitals are valuable in helping us to continue to make improvements and these have been shared with the cleaning services department. The experience of this individual is unrepresentative of the feedback we get from the vast majority of patients and the many compliments we receive about the standards of cleanliness in our hospitals.
