"Pain clinic"

About: Scunthorpe General Hospital

I had an appointment at the pain clinic this afternoon. There was a note on the information board advising patients that due to illness there was only one doctor working. I did not know whether this related to my appointment as there was more than one clinic running. After waiting nearly an hour I and several other patients were asked to go into the doctor's room and he advised us that he had asked for a member of the management team to come and see us but nobody was available. The doctor did not have enough time to see us all. I decided to go home. The nurse told me that I would be marked as attending. I feel that the hospital is only interested in meeting its targets.

Hello, thank you for your comments, I'm sorry to hear about what must have been a very frustrating experience. If you would like it to be investigated further, please call our patient advice and liaison service on 01724 290132 or email nlg-tr.PALS@nhs.net Due to a combination of the popularity of the acute chronic pain service and a reduction in service from neighbouring hospitals there has been a significant increase in demand onthe Trust service. So far in 2013/14 the service has undertaken 760 more outpatient and daycase procedures than last year. In order to cater for increased demand the Trust has: • Increased the amount of consultant and middle grade sessions undertaken per week. For the first time the Trust has a dedicated chronic pain consultant who will manage the chronic pain team and work solely within the service • The community chronic pain service is now operational in both North and North East Lincolnshire. This is improving the quality and experience for chronic pain patients, and ensuring that many can be treated without the need for hospital referrals Through a combination of these factors the Trust will again be achieving the national standard waiting times for access to services. Kind regards, Sarah Mainprize
