"Local Health and Social Care"

About: St Thomas' Hospital (London)

(as a service user),

I was in St Thomas Hospital a couple of years ago for minor surgery. The care and whole experience was wonderful-I had my own room and bathroom and the food was fantastic. I work as a volunteer PA at the Age UK day centre here in Southwark. The good thing about this place is that its a walk in facility so people can just come. Some people just come in and have a cup of tea or do bingo or knitting. No pressure is put on people and you can see what the company does for people.

Lots of day centres have closed down so people come here instead and are made welcome. You dont have to pay to join. All the visitors that we have are always impressed with what we do here one of the local councillors came here and was told about what it would mean for people if it were to ever shut down. People would not have a meal and I think it would affect peoples mental health. Having company and somewhere to go is so important.
