"Fantastic care in labour ward"

About: The Royal London Hospital

I gave birth to my son here in December 2013 in the low-risk labour ward and I have to say, from start to finish I was treated with respect and care and because of that had a wonderful birth experience. I was anxious having had an awful experience with my daughter, born at St Mary's, and was keen to have as non-intervention a birth as possible. I got my wish and had my son in a water pool with the best views of london imaginable! There was a slight complication towards the end and I had to exit the pool very quickly but because everyone around me remained calm and I trusted them, it was dealt with quickly and with utmost profesionalism. I had to stay in the hospital for 3 nights after and was able to book a private room which was fantastic and I found the level of care and attention from the midwives and nurses post-birth was really very good. My only criticism would be that the rooms were slightly hot - but I guess that's because it was mid winter and it was a maternity ward! Really was a wonderful experience and I'm eternally grateful to my midwife and her team for their efforts to allow me to have the birth I wanted.
