After giving birth in Pinderfields hospital at the end of January, I received excellent post natal home care. My midwife Liz came to see about 3 times to check on me and my baby. She requested her support workers Andrea and Fid to come visit me to help with breastfeeding.
Andrea in particular was a star, helping me with latching on and showing me different feeding positions with my baby. One position she taught me I still use today, plus I can now feed laying down because she showed me how to! The support and encouragement was essential as they had more time to spend with me. Andrea followed up her visit with a phone call a few days later to make sure I was ok.
The midwives at Pinderfields were tremendous, in particular Alison who delivered my baby. Within 15 mins of my arrival at the hospital, Alison had successfully delivered my baby. It all happened so quick, but she was excellent, professional and knew exactly how to deal with the fast delivery.
Thank you
One area that I think could be improved regarding the postnatal after-care, would be to have a health visitor do their home visit not at 3 months, but maybe at 4-6 weeks. This is because you are more settled as a new mum and do have questions/things to discuss, plus you sometimes want reassurance that what you are doing is right.
Also, it would be good if the 6 week mum and baby health check is one appointment. Much more convenient for mum. That is how it is done in London and makes sense. Also I don't understand why the health visitor makes your baby's 6 week appointment and mum has to do her own. One party should make both appointments - less confusing.
