"still freezing cold waiting in a corridor part 3"

About: Cumberland Infirmary

Some while ago I brought to the attention of the hospital the discomfort of my wife whilst sat in the cold and somewhat undignified main corridor waiting for day surgery. I wrote to the hospital again to say that although they said they would be taking note of my concerns, nothing had actually changed. At the beginning of February the hospital said that they were holding a meeting with the relevant managers and would be introducing some changes to allow better waiting conditions for patients. Out of curiosity, I popped in the other day to see if anything had changed. I was dismayed to see that patients were still waiting behind the makeshift screen in the main corridor, still on very low and impractical seating and still with virtually no privacy. The only upside I could notice is that it wasn't quite so cold, but that is more the result of some unseasonably warm days recently, together with the main front door which was locked shut as it was broken, rather than by design of the hospital managers for surgery. Whoever is the manager of the people who are meant to have designed this setup needs to take a good look at what is actually going on.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding this matter, we apologise for the discomfort experienced by your wife at the time, and hope that she is making a good recovery from her surgery. We do appreciate that the waiting area referred to within the main atrium of the building is not ideal. We are addressing this as a priority along with a number of additional changes to this area .These have been informed by asking the views of patients, visitors and their relatives in addition to staff and it is hoped that the improvements planned will enhance our patients' experience while visiting the hospital. We anticipate that the modifications will be undertaken within the next 6-8 weeks . Thank you again for signalling your concern with us, we hope that by working together in this way ,we can directly respond to the needs of our patients who rely on us for their care. With kind regards and best wishes .
