The gynaecology department at the EDG is possibly ok if you've got something fairly run-of-the-mill wrong with you, but in my case instead of referring me on to a gynaecological oncologist, the gynaecology department palmed me off onto another (mixed-sex) department for a very sensitive and distressing gynae.problem. I was given no information about my condition, nor did I have any chance to discuss my treatment. The pre-op nurses kept telling me different and contradictory information as to why my operation was being endlessly cancelled, and admissions were very insensitive with regard to operation dates. It ended up with a formal complaint being made, but I didn't get a written reply to my concerns, and in the end had to tell them I am not returning to this hospital because of the stress and effect the whole thing was having on my mental health. They just seemed glad to have one patient less to deal with. After having to resort to researching the condition myself I discovered that it is a gynaecological oncologist that I need to see. I am now trying hard to save up to have the problem looked at privately, as it is almost certainly going to end up taking my life. I've been left very distressed by the whole experience. I don't know if this is particular to this hospital or if it is typical of what happens in all hospitals, but I tend to put off going to the NHS wherever possible now.
