My father was on Blickling ward for two weeks last year it is the most dreadful place and the charge nurse I often dealt with was appalling. Both my father and I were very frightened when he was admitted, I mentioned this to the charge nurse saying my father hated loud noise (the ward was very noisy) only to be told "oh this is nothing you should see it when its full it really is Bedlam then". On what level did he imagine this was helpful to two frightened people who had never been in such a place, my father became violent and had to be restrained and this man laughed at him which my father noticed and so made him worse. I will never forget the horror of leaving my dear Dad in such a Dickensian place for two terrible weeks In contrast my father then spent 15 weeks in Hammerton court on rose ward whom I have nothing but the highest praise for, it is the most fantastic facility The care he received there was outstanding with all staff being extremely knowledgeable about dementia and extremely helpful and caring both to Dad and myself. They and their therapies worked wonders for my father and he was able to leave hospital and return to a care home.....
