What could be improved

Day room facilities in Rowan Ward - I was shocked when I visited my mother in the day room and saw all the patients lined up around the walls, virtually trapped in their seats as all the walking aids were stacked together, out of their reach. The TV was flogging its heart out and the "inmates" could not communicate or interact with each other without shouting across the room.

My mother who is 85 usually has an hour lie down at home in the afternoon, but the regime here seemed to insist that patients were got up in the morning, shoved in the day room all day and then put to bed in the evening at the convenience of the staff.

This was the sort of regime that my great grandmother had to endure 40 odd years ago and I thought that it would have improved a bit by now.

It's not surprising that the elderly don't want to go to hospital or into residential accommodation when their fear of being treated like this is realised..
