Having just spent the best part of a day in the above unit with our 7 year old son I felt compelled to write in praise of the excellent care we received there. I was impressed with the whole process; being referred by our GP, our son being greeted by name in reception, being given a bed straightaway and having all the relevant tests done in a caring manner to rule out appendicitis. Staff kept us informed, talked to our son in a respectful way and just made us feel that we were in the best place possible to take care of our son. There was even a play specialist (who went to the trouble of finding him a book about dinosaurs) to distract our son while he was having his blood taken! How brilliant is that? And having a 48 hour open access to the unit in case of a recurrence is such a good idea. A big thank you to the unit in general and two males nurses in particular. Once our son was feeling better he said he had had a great day on the ward!
