"The food was acceptable. The nurses ..."

About: Eastbourne District General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The food was acceptable. The nurses and healthcare assistants on the ward and in theatre were amazingly human, great understanding, fantastic humour,VERY proffessional. Seaford 4 was exceptionally clean.

What could be improved

The arrogant attitude of the surgeon/consultant.Maybe he was having a bad week but he spoke to me 10 mins before my op,5 mins after i signed the consent form, only to tell me that he wasnt going to do a vaginal hysterectomy (better recovery )but an abdominal one.I queried this and he said to me ' We arent doing this for cosmetic reasons !' (After i've spent 10 years having every other treatment available ,as if i wasn't aware !) My husband said that had i not been in the nervous anxious state i was,he would've said something.

Anything else?

I had been preparing for my surgery ie cover at work.I was told 2 weeks before my date that surgery was cancelled.Had to write to GP,just to get another date. Then didnt bother making arrangements as sure it would be cancelled again. My only other op was cancelled twice, second time i had been prepared and was waiting to go to theatre all day. In future hopefully i wont need more surgery but if i do,i'll assume the first op date will be cancelled.

Saw my GP in April 08 ,to put me forward for a hysterectomy.Had a hysteroctopy July 08,actual hysterectomy October 08.So less than a year from first app to surgery .Thats good.
