"Needs Brightening up"

About: Littlebrook Hospital

Having visited yesterday for the very first time a friend who is an in-patient I came away feeling very depressed, not because of any conversation we had, but because of the dull surroundings they are in. Surely if you are suffering from a mental health issue it is not helpful to be looking at brown walls, screened windows and flooring and furniture that's old fashioned. At no point during our visit did any staff check to see if we were ok, give us a cheerful Hello or Goodbye, were we invisible? At the end of the visit on leaving a client was sitting by the secure door, staff shouted at her and continued to, why ? then they seemed surprised she shouted at them! their display of this behaviour left us feeling less then confident our friend is being cared for well, sympathetic and as a human being.

Thank you for raising these matters and I am sorry that you have had a less than exemplary experience of our service. It is not possible to comment of individual experiences on a public website but please contact KMPT PALS service on 0800 587 6757 to highlight your specific experiences so that we can look into these. I would say that we are confused about the comment about brown walls as we have all of our wards painted magnolia. We feel it gives a light and airy feel, we also do not believe that many items of furniture are old fashioned as they are regularly replaced, and whilst we do have privacy screens on patient windows, this is to ensure the privacy of the patients staying in them. I hope that you can contact us so that we can look more fully into your concerns.
