"I was admitted following a heart ..."

About: Royal Surrey County Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was admitted following a heart attack and felt very unwell. I was never consulted on my treatment. I also have severe mental health problems and I found that these were brushed aside despite the fact that I was self-harming on the ward. I told 4 staff that I needed them to contact the community mental health nurse I was using and this took 4 days. I was feeling extremely unwell both physically and mentally and I found the staff attitudes were awful. The nurses were extremely overworked and the HCA's were trying to do what they could. When I was discharged, I was only given 2 days medication despite my explaining that I was only had a normal 2 week prescription but had been advised not to drive, so could not get to the surgery to get more drugs. In the end I had to pay for 2 taxis to get more drugs. I would not , by choice, go back to this hospital, however it is the closest to my home and I will probably have to use it again in an emergency.

What could be improved

Cleanliness, more knowledgeable staff, more privacy, staff actually doing what they promise to do.

Anything else?

The food was terrible, usually re-hashed from lunch menu or previous days menu. The best meal was breakfast (I recommend the croissants and the wholemeal rolls).
