"Oakburn Ward: You can tell staff love their job"

About: Lynfield Mount Hospital / Adult mental health service

(as the patient),

Been here 3 weeks, sometimes the cutlery is filthy and food can be cold. Ward environment is well designed but I do feel cold a lot.

Staff properly listen to me and take my views seriously. You can tell staff love their job. I think it is a very hard job that they do well.

Staff spent a lot of time arranging smoking for patients as you have to get a lighter and take people out. There must be a better way like a glow light, but it doesn’t work.

Now that I have been here for a few weeks, I would say the ward has met my expectations. If I was to use one or two words to describe Lynfield, it would be “safe” and “caring”.

This is good news about the staff. Thank you for taking time to tell us about them and your good experience. I believe that our staff are passionate about their work with our patients, and to know that is felt by the patients is excellent. Our staff work hard and it is nice that this is recognised.

I was sorry to hear about the food and cutlery. I would hope that this is not an ongoing persistent issue and more of an isolated occasion. I will forward this feedback to our Catering Manager for him to address. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

I am aware that the lighters in our outdoor areas are not always working and our estates team are responsive to our calls for replacements. There are very limited options of different lighters which are suitable for our environments and which meet health and safety requirements so we have to try and work with what we have. It is good that staff try to accommodate patients when they need to smoke.

Thank you once more for taking time to tell us about your stay.
