The beginning of the week I was in hospital for having my gallbladder out I was admitted onto ward 18 after the operation, I wasn't told I was going to be spending the night there only my relatives were I found this quite inappropriate I believe I should have been consulted as well as them and only found out from my relatives I had to stay. during the course of my day on the ward I found some of the staff to be unapproachable and was always huffing and puffing when someone buzzed for their help. After not passing urine for 11hours I was quite upset and in agony from the pain by which I was told I shouldn't be upset its normal and was made to feel like a pain for even asking for help, and instead they just insisted I eat something, not something I felt like when I was desperate for a wee but in agony!. I wasn't even given a choice of food they just shoved ham sandwich on my table not even taking into account that I could have been vegetarian or anything I don't think this is acceptable at all. Also on many occasions the patient next to me had to get the staff for me as I was attached to a drip and couldn't move out of bed after they failed to answer the buzzer because they were outside the bay talking. it didn't get much better the next morning either as when they were coming around doing the breakfasts they decided to stop and have a ten min conversation at the end of my bed before asking what I wanted. I am a student nurse and know what the level of care should be like, me and other patients shouldn't be felt like we are a pain being in there in the first place I can honestly say I have never been treated like that as a patient anywhere else I have been and I hope I don't have to go there again!
