My dear wife has been in Intensive Care (ICU) for the past 8 days following major surgery and I am impressed and delighted with the treatment, care and compassion she is receiving from a team of highly dedicated professionals.. This small unit is for critically ill patients and it lives up to its title: by delivering intense care 24 hours a day, often with the staff working long hours under extreme pressure at times. As well as 'one to one' nursing, my wife is also aided in her fight for survival by an amazing array of equipment costing multi-thousands of pounds per patient. This is the National Health Service at its very best and it's free at source. Compared to many countries we are so fortunate to have this type of specialist care available at our local hospital. Many people are so quick to knock the NHS at the slightest hint of a mistake. We all make mistakes and these staff members are only human. But I also believe in giving credit when someone does a job well and as far as I am concerned Scunthorpe Hospital is currently pulling out all the stops in order to do their utmost to save my wife. I know she is in the best place possible to give her every chance of making a good recovery. I would also like to pay tribute to the A & E department staff who also did their best for my wife before she went to theatre. Thank you Scunthorpe Hospital for being there when we needed you! Finally may I add that as a visitor I have been treated with the utmost respect and courtesy by friendly and helpful staff. On all previous visits to Scunthorpe Hospital for appointments, etc. my wife and I have invariably been greeted with friendly and welcoming staff.
"Intensive Care Unit delivers!"
