"We are very lucky to have this hospital on our doorstep"

My daughter had a toe hair tourniquet which resulted in me taking her to A&E to have it removed. She was seen within 10 minutes on arrival and treated by a doctor who I believe was called Andreas. He was wonderful and carried out a procedure to remove the hair. He arranged for my daughter to be seen by the orthopaedic team who came to see her straight away and asked me to come back later on that day for a second opinion regarding my daughter maybe needing surgery.

I was horrified with the prospect that she may need surgery but overwhelmed with the care and attention all the doctors had given to my daughter. To cut a long story short she had to have surgery the following day and I really can't thank all the staff who I met from A&E to the children's ward. She had wonderful treatment and we are extremely grateful.

The only negative thing I have to say is that in early March I had to take her back to outpatients to the fracture clinic as requested by the surgeon. She was taken by my mother in law who was told that her appointment had been cancelled and to come back in 2 weeks. After investigating this, it appeared that there had been a breakdown in communication so I had to take my daughter the day after to the children's ward which the nurse - Nerys Hughes had arranged for her wound to be checked.

I do feel that the NHS does have a lot of bad publicity and maybe we don't always hear about the positive things that go on day to day. I certainly know that we are very lucky to have this hospital on our doorstep.
