About: Eastbourne District General Hospital Eastbourne District General Hospital Eastbourne BN21 2UD
I have Type 1 Diabetes and Ulcerative colitis so regularly visit EDGH. The level of care and support from both the diabetes team and the IBD nurse are fantastic. They are always on the end of the phone should you have questions and are friendly and informative at appointments. Neither department has ever made me feel trivial or stupid for asking questions and I feel that I have both of my conditions under control because of the care I receive at the DGH. I did have one negative experience when I needed to have a colonoscopy. I was supposed to be scheduled in for first thing in the morning, as it can be difficult to manage fasting with type 1 diabetes but was given an afternoon appointment which I wasn't able to change. The staff on the ward were all great, but the colonoscopy was the most painful thing I have ever experienced and despite asking for it to stop at one stage, the doctor just carried on, didn't speak to me, and didn't respond to a question I asked. I felt a bit ignored throughout the whole proceedure despite being fully awake. I felt a bit traumatised by the end of the proceedure. However this one negative experience weighed up against 8 - 10 good appointments I have throughout the year leaves me with an overall good experience of EDGH.
