"Day surgery for extensive dental work under a GA"

About: Hexham General Hospital

I was referred to Hexham day surgery unit which took place on Saturday the 22nd of February. I had extensive teeth removal plus bone removal which left me a bit anxious. But as soon as I found the right department I was immediately seen to and told by two kind nurses the plan of action. It all went to plan and I was seen by the theatre nurse who went through a questionnaire and if I had any questions. Then I got seen by the surgeon who was very pleasant and told me the full procedure and asked my permission for treatment on a couple of areas not previously mentioned then I saw the anaesthetist who was also a friendly guy. The cubicle I had was spotless and I was a bit of a nervous wreck. Then I got changed and within 2 hours I was called by the anaesthetist to come to the theatre and In less than 3 minutes I was asleep and woke up and hour and a half later. Now just a small problem that my mouth decided it would not stop bleeding and both nurses were concerned that even though they could not see any blood gushing out it still worried them enough to offer me a bed on ward 3 till I came round s bit more and the bleeding stopped. Well I chose to go home with a pre-prepared after care pack plus lots of gauze and leaflets etc. and even wheeled down to my taxi by the nurse herself. I could fault nothing about the day unit and would recommend anyone who's nervous to choose to come to this friendly caring hospital and the excellent treatment by all concerned. Dear Jamie, Thanks for taking the time to get in touch. I love your description of Hexham as a friendly caring hospital - I know how hard our staff work every day to try to deliver the best care, in the right way, to allow patients to know just how much they matter. I can completely understand why you were so anxious awaiting such extensive dental surgery - I'm delighted you got all the support you needed from every member of the team. I do hope you healed well at home and that it wasn't too long before you could enjoy food again. With best wishes, Annie
