"Fantastic care"

About: Whalton Unit

My Grandma is receiving palliative care at Morpeth Cottage Hospital and my family could not be more happy with the care being provided at this awful time. We are so grateful to all the staff who are not only caring for the patient but also looking after the family too. We have not been in this hospital before and the contrast between this hospital and another hospital in the area is unbelievable. The hospital is spotless and the rooms are well-equipped. The parking is free !! The staff are offering refreshments where possible to help support family members staying overnight. A spare bed and reclining chair have been provided with blankets and pillows. More importantly though my Grandma is receiving the very best end of life care and every effort is being made to keep her comfortable and peaceful. Family members are also being offered emotional support when necessary with plenty of explanations and involvement in her care. We feel very lucky that Grandma was transferred to this hospital - the staff are all wonderful.

Dear Catherine, I am so sorry to hear the sad news about your Grandma. In these circumstances it is so kind of you to take any time out to write about the care she is currently receiving on the Whalton Unit at Morpeth. Thank you. We are very proud of the Morpeth team and their commitment to provide the best possible care at all times. We are also very grateful when patients or family members take the time to give us such detailed feedback. It gives us the opportunity to pay a lot of attention to what really matters. The kindness, helpfulness and professional attention that you describe in your post is exactly what we’d want every one of our patients to receive, every day, across all of our hospitals and community services. I am so pleased that you feel your Grandma is in the right hospital and that you are confident that staff are doing all they can to ensure she is comfortable and at peace. I can appreciate just how important this must be for your family at this difficult time. With warm wishes and our sympathy, Annie
