I attended A&E with my daughter who was diagnosed with blood clot on the lung. A serious condition you might imagine. She was given medication but then left in A& E in the open area sitting on a plastic seat for 9 hours before a berth became available. She received zero communication during this time. Many other patients were experiencing the same or similar indignities. She had not eaten , she was hungry and tired. She was then sent to AAU ( a better environment) . She was eventually seen by a doctor that afternoon who had the grace to apologise because " they had lost her". Finally she received the advice and treatment guidance she needed. This was a very stressful experience largely because of the lack of communication and care. A great supporter of the NHS left very disillusioned indeed. I would describe it as shoddy and degrading. Clearly very serious organisational and capacity problems and staff who did not seem to realise the negative effect they were having. We pay for this?
