January 2013 was in for STARR procedure I was left in agony on the wrong pain medications for over a week before anyone would change it for me. It was arranged with my consultant prior to my rectal surgery that my chronic pain condition & mobility issues would be respected at all times due to the nature of the operation I was having. I was also in need of aids to assist me after my op such as a commode, bathing aids toilet aids etc & was advised by the girls at my doctor's surgery that the nurses were wonderful & would arrange it for me after my op. This was not the case & I was chastised for not having it in place already. A couple of nurses held it against me until they pretty much threw me out when things were ready for me at home saying you were like this before you came in. 'Look at her sitting there with that blooming laptop taking up a bed' I heard one nurse say! I was the only one with a laptop!! The fact of the matter was that no I wasn't, because after the surgery I couldn't walk for over a week, the communication between my brain & feet wasn't working properly plus I also needed help & aids from occy health in order to live at home after my op. I suffered severe whole body spasms for a week before anyone helped me even though I asked on a daily basis for some help. It didn't help that someone had stupidly take paracetamol off my medication list. Every time my body went into spasm it pulled on where I'd had surgery, rectal surgery!! I yelled at a young doctor because he patronised me & that was held against me also, but yet they still did nothing, I had apologised. Then the main nurse that bullied me the whole time I was there said 'neurology don't want to have anything to do with you' at which point I broke down in front of everyone watching, the nurse panicked & then tried to tell me that wasn't what she said but the other patients had heard her. I'm crying now writing this as I'm still hurt by the way I was treated. Approx 6 months before having this op I'd been tersely dismissed from neurology as not having a neurological disorder &yet I was clearly having neuro issues. Eventually, one of his minions was sent to see me on the ward & I was given something for spasms/pain & told there would be follow up in 8 weeks...... .........someone from the hospital cancelled my appointment because I was seeing a Rheumatologist saying there was no point in me seeing the neurologist, then I got a request to resign for the appointment as it had been cancelled............ still waiting!! Oh! I didn't find out the appointment was cancelled until after my husband had wheeled me all the way to the hospital. I had never had major surgery before & have never spent time in any hospital except for when I was born & if I said I don't even want my initial problem checked for fear of having to go through that again, would you understand why that might be? Incidently I've had no follow up since my op either. very digruntled
