I suffer from CML and MGUS and recently my white blood cell count went sky high, the doctor put me on a course of Chemo (hydroxycarbomide) which sorted the problem but made me very anaemic. Last Thursday I went in for blood transfusion I was there all day and was very impressed by the cheeriness of this unit and the staff were really amazing. I was kept informed as to what was going and was plied with copious amounts of tea and to my surprise the sandwiches were very nice. I would like to thank the doctor and the day unit team for all their kindness, the banter was absolutely amazing. Over the weekend my ankle swelled up and I was in a lot of pain so this morning so I rung one of the nurses who although she wasn't in work contacted the unit and they rang me and told me to come in. After having my bloods taken and the results back I was seen by a nice doctor who said I had gout. What I am trying to say is it is so reassuring to know that expert help is at the end of a phone whenever you need. The staff really do care about each patient as an individual and I think they are stars. thanks from the bottom of my heart. tonyx
