I was sent by optician to the eye casualty for a suspected detached retina. After waiting a while to be seen the treatment then was absolutely superb, I was diagnosed at approximately 11.45 and had the operation by 4pm the same day. It was completely successful and because of the insertion of a corrective lens I have almost perfect sight. However, the waiting times for the follow up appointments have been dreadful. My last appointment was for 9.45 a.m and I was seen at 1.15 p.m. I believe the consultant had been delayed. If that had been explained we would have been less distraught and could at least have got a drink. I believe the NHS in emergencies cannot be bettered. It has some of the best consultants in the world. We do not want to lose them through overwork and poor conditions.
