"Physio staff excellent. Helpful ..."

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Physio staff excellent.

Helpful with appointment times.

Canteen food good.

What could be improved

Parking. Parking. Parking.

Enforce no smoking rules or give up.

Clean up smoking rubbish all down Sheepfoot Lane and near Laundry.

Canteen expensive.

Maps still out of date.

Anything else?

Oldham site is dangerous with so many cars parked on the pavements and blocking the paths.

I parked at the old HQ and found the large car park empty. Why has the site been abandoned when the main site is so overcrowded?

Some of the buildings are quite new.

We're glad to hear that your clinical care was good.

There are car parking issues at Oldham now because of the major investment at the site. While it's obviously good news for residents that we're building the new radiotherapy centre for The Christie (which will also create more beds in the upper floors for patients needing our services), we realise that the construction work has taken car parking spaces out of use.

We have got plans to build a multi-storey car park, which will significantly enhance capacity. As part of our transport and access policy we will be segregating staff and visitor/patient parking, to make it easier for people to get access. After an initial period we will be using a fines system to enforce this - we have tried with polite notices and informal enforcement, but as you say, many drivers sadly ignore basic rules and park on paths/pavements. This causes problems for our many patients/visitors with either mobility problems, wheelchairs or pushchairs.

We closed the office accommodation at the Westhulme site and moved the staff to our HQ at North Manchester General Hospital to free up the land. We are currently developing additional plans for it.
