I'm just back from my annual MRI scan of my brain following brain surgery, in which contrast is required to see the tumour. The lady that did my MRI was rude, short, abrasive, slammed things down. Fitted the head piece on 3 times in a huff and said that will have to do. She actually said she still didn't know how to use the machine. She squashed some ear plugs in my hand and shoved me in the machine- starting the scan before my ears were properly protected, and got in a real huff when I asked to have a moment for the plugs to un-squish. She said just two more scans to go but kept going for a further 4 scans without any notice of when it would end. Didn't hear me when I spoke. When I came out and asked about the contrast scan she said she wasn't qualified. She then went on to tell me that I never normally have contrast scans, which is a lie as I have had contrast in every scan since 2008, that's how you find these kind of tumours- the detail from the contrast dye. She didn't even have any of my files but was quoting my medical history from out of her own imagination. I felt like she was having a bad day- didnt want to be there and didnt have any interest in anything but herself, and wish I had pointed out that i'm the one with brain tumour symptoms and if anyone should be grotty today It should be me, i'm the one who trying to cope with a very serious medical condition. There is a good reason why I need an MRI in the first place. The tragedy is that it reflects upon the whole of the hospital and its reputation, and the reputation of the skilled talented and caring staff that do a great job everyday. I'm sure there are some that work there somewhere.
