"Treatment for abscess at Northern General"

About: Northern General Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Me and my wife were going away to Blackpool for a week last month. Two days before we went, I found a small lump on my bum which was very sore. Although I thought it might be an abscess, it eased up the following day and so I ignored it. Whilst in Blackpool, it erupted. I was in a lot of pain and so went to an NHS Walk-In Centre. They sent me to a doctors, who gave me two types of antibiotic for it. I decided to return home early in order to see my own GP, who sent me to hospital for an operation straight away. I was in the Northern General for a week with a drain in it, as by this time it had grown to the size of an orange. Eventually the problem was sorted, but this was the worst pain I have ever felt.
