"Poor levels of care and unprofessional conduct"

I was v disappointed by professional care given by the majority of staff at the mother and baby unit-seemed there was little or no empathy shown by nurses and clinicians alike-little factual info provided-much of my stay was guesswork. Errors happened frequently, and no explanations given to me as the patient. A scary place where one feels very vulnerable-I hope others' experience is more positive but during my admission it appeared a lot of the patients felt the same way. Very sad situation

Dera anomymous

The Clinicalk Team at the Mother and Baby Unit is sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction and the bad experiences that you encountered on the ward. The MBU staff would like to reassure you that they always attempt to provide their clients the highest standards of care possible. The ward has a robust system in place to monitor continuously the clinical standard practice on daily basis to ensure the safety of mothers and babies.

Throughout the admission, their care and treatments are being reviewed weekly by the multidisciplinary team. Clients are invited to attend this meeting and discuss their care plan and evaluate their progress. To support mothers and babies in the recovery process and in building their self-esteem and confidence, the ward offers a full occupational programme.

Fathers and carers are encouraged to take part of the client's care plan, this would be done prior receiving consent from mothers. We also provide support to fathers/carers if required.

The Ward Manager, Consultant and Clinical Service Lead would like to thank you for your feedback and will monitor the care provided to mothers and babies by MBU professionals.

Best wishes,

Pamela
