"Referred for cataract removal from left eye."

About: Royal Lancaster Infirmary

I am retired and 24/7 carer to my partner who has advanced alzheimers. on the day of the appointment I paid for her to go into day care, pick up at 1830hrs. After initial eye test the nurse said she was going to put dilation drops into both eyes, I refused to have drops in my right eye because I would not be able to travel back on public transport or drive later to pick up my partner from day care. In the past couple of years I have undergone an operation and laser treatment on my left eye, and during all the checks my right eye has been dilated as well, which I find extremely uncomfortable. The nurse said to wait and see what the doctor said, her attitude did not inspire any confidence. When asked to go in to the room the nurse and the doctor were ready for me and I knew from their looks I would not be treated, and so was the case. Apparently they have to do the same thing every time, no matter what the situation or problems it may cause to the patient or other dependants, driving, cooking , bathing, caring ,.all these are not mentioned on the appointment letter, its as usual with some parts of the NHS, your way or not at all. I have asked my GP to refer me to Manchester royal for treatment and all the problems and expense that will entail,
