"My review of the Newberry"

I spent 8months in the Newberry. When you go in of your own free will they give you the impression that you are going to be allowed out to spend time with friends when in actual fact they may just say that to get you in there. You get to see your physiatrist once a week, they also have a group on for dbt twice a week. At some points they have another group on once a week. They talk about having lots of activities on when in actual fact there isn't many although there is more than an adult inpatient as I have been in those on a number of occasions now. You get a key nurse who is meant to see you once a week, mine however didn't bother very often. There is always staff around, and most are friendly. You get a doctor and a review of your care every 6weeks. If you need the help then I would recommend this place, it can help. Sometimes it can be very boring and sometimes other patients can be triggering so you have to be carful. My physiologist/ physiatrist was lovely and I miss her a lot now even though I have been discharged quite a while.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to comment on your experiences with our services. We are very pleased to hear of your positive experiences with staff being friendly, especially psychology and psychiatry and also that you would recommend the services at Newberry Centre, West Lane Hospital. However we are sorry to read your less positive comments. We do work to continuously improve our services, and since 2012 changes have been made to services at the Newberry Centre. We now have activity co-ordinators who spend a dedicated amount of time working alongside young people on the unit to develop a time table of activities, which are both therapeutic and enjoyable. These activity co-ordinators attend weekly and daily meetings with young people, to ensure their suggestions and ideas are being heard. If you have any concerns about the services you are receiving, or have received, please contact PALS freephone 0800 052 0219 or by email tewv.pals@nhs.net
