"My surgery and post op care."

About: Neurosciences (DCN) / Neurology

(as the patient),

I was admitted early in the morning for a discectomy, I was only 20 at the time and very scared..the nurse that was preparing me for theatre was very reassuring and made it a whole lot easier for me. The aneasthist also assured that he would be monitoring me The whole time which also made me feel better, I could tell by the way they were talking that they really did want to help.

When I woke up in the recovery room there were 2 nurses one giving me pain meds and the other giving me a drink and making sure I was okay, a nurse (Emma) then came down from ward 32 to take me up, she would check on me alot, helped me use the toilet and helped me get dressed..as this is something a 20 year old is not used to she made me feel very comfortable.

Because my blood pressure was low I needed to have a drip so I couldn't move from my bed, every the I pressed the buzzer someone was with me in a matter of minutes, I remember pushing the buzzer for an extra pillow for my legs and within a couple minutes I had the pillow. I was worried after they told me I needed an ecg because of my heart rate but again was reassured, the doctor that came to see me was brilliant as well.

I dreaded having to stay in hospital but the staff made me not want to leave... they were all amazing and I can't fault them at all. I even had a nurse from my pre op appointment (Erin) come to see how I was doing because she remembered how anxious I was, I hope I never need another operation but if I do I won't be half as worried knowing the team they have on ward 32 is amazing: -)

Dear Chelsea 323

Thank you sincerely for taking time out to pass on such wonderful and detailed feedback.

The treatment and care of patients is our absolute top priority and I am pleased to see that was the case for you.

Coming into hospital for an operation at any age is never easy but to do so at just 20 must have been very daunting for you.

I am glad that our excellent staff were able to put your mind at ease and make your care as comfortable as possible

I will pass on your kind comments to the team concerned.
