"A child's entry in to the world of disabilities and the NHS"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as a carer),

The road for a child with disabilities is fraught with non communication. It feels like no one tells you what direction you should be heading and there is no ladder of direction. My little one who is just coming up to his 3 birthday has only just been released from the neo natal consultant. This should have been done when he was 2. He will be now under the community consultant. When I asked if he would be referred onto a paediatric consultant or orthopedic consultant? I was told the the damage was done that there was nothing that can be done.

If I had listened to them when he was born they told me he would not see, hear walk or talk. But because of our determination he can see, hear and talk.

I just want clarity as to where we should be going forward with him

Dear jessy92,

I was quite shocked and upset to read your comments. In order to try and help, I would need to find out a bit more information.

It would be most helpful if in the first instance you could contact Shona Welton. Shona is contactable on 01698-8558094.

Shona would then be able to discuss this with colleagues and we can decide how to best support you and your son going forward.

I hope that you feel able to take up this offer.

Kind regards

Rosemary

Dear jessy92

You might remember that we spoke at the end of February. Thank you for contacting me and explaining in a bit more detail what had been happening. As you know I arranged for

Richard Burgon, one of my General Manager colleagues, to contact you. Richard has let me know that your little one has been seen by one of our paediatricians and is being referred on for more specialist care. I do hope that this will address the concerns you had about your little boy's care but please don't hesitate to contact Richard or me if we can help again.

Shona
