I wanted to extend my appreciation of the A & E staff at Southend Hospital after my mum broke her Elbow recently. Not only were the receptionist staff friendly, the ambulance people stayed with my mum until she was seen. ( Private Ambulance by NHS) The care they care her in keeping her upbeat was amazing and they even had me laughing. In such a horrible situation this was very reassuring. Mum had x-rays by a lovely lady, ithey included me by explaining everything that was going on. The doctor was extremely professional and on the ball in going in the X-ray room to have a look. Within 1/2 hour of the x-ray being done, my mum knew what she had done, knew what the next steps were and felt reassured knowing. The nurses spent time talking to mum and making sure she was ok. My only Concern would be when we went in and advised it was an elbow injury the doctor came round and asked what she was in for - not a great deal of communication there, but i would put this down to the staff in A&E having to rush around over what i can only describe as a 'spoilt brat'' throwing herself on the floor in the doorway because she wasn't being seen- and no it was definitely not life threatening) .Its things like this as to why people have to wait longer than necessary. Well done all the staff at A&E! Total experience from her getting seen to on the ward was around 5 hours which isn't ideal but this was not due to the lack of care or responsibility from the staff.
