"Friendly Staff"

About: Southampton General Hospital

I experienced the emergency department for the second time. I had chest pain and palpitations so once I booked in was taken straight through to the majors area. I got seen very quickly and was kept up to date with what was happening. As I have a rare allergy the thing they could have done was to ask me what normally happens rather then keep asking each other, as I know it best. The staff were very friendly especially as it being terrifying for me. When the staff swapped from day to night I was introduced to my new nurse. The only thing I can comment on is the miscommunication as I was moved round to the Clinical Decision Unit and waited there for about an hour, eventually the nurse in their contacted the doctor to see what was happening and the doctor thought I had already gone home as results were clear. Causing us to leave the department just before midnight. Other then this it is a lovely department and the staff are very friendly

Thank you for your positive feedback about the experience you had in our Emergency Department which we will share with the staff there. We can understand what a frightening time it must have been for you and are pleased that staff made it easier by their friendly attitude and keeping you informed. However we are sorry about the miscommunication when you moved to the Clinical Decision Unit which caused a late discharge from the department.
