"My first and I hope last visit"

About: Southmead Hospital

I went to Southmead Hospital Avon Orthopaedic Centre, for the first time and after travelling for thirty miles arrived with thirty minutes to spare, and panic set in when I could not find any where to park. I tried to ring the dept to seek advice but they had an answer phone on, more panic, in the end I risked it and put car in a restricted area, I could not park further away as I can only walk slowly on crutches. Finally I arrived at the department on time, 1hour and a half later I still had not been called and was told there were still two in front of me, due to my physical problems I find sitting in upright low chairs painful for any length of time and after this long period I could not go on, so I told them I would have to leave. My first visit and I hope my last. The whole experience left me in a very distressed state.

Dear Mr Tullett – thank you for taking the time and trouble to post your comments about parking at Southmead Hospital. I am sorry that you encountered such difficulties with parking. Regrettably, the current building works are at a phase where parking is reduced to a level below that which we would like to provide. Our plans do include increased parking on site at Southmead for our visitors when the New Brunel Hospital Building opens, and a further increase when our second multi-story car park is completed in 2015. We do try to advise our visitors of the buses that serve the Southmead site and will always provide a Travel Plan if requested. Once again I apologise for the current unavoidable pinch-point in the car parking arrangements on the Southmead site. Kind regards - Steve Sykes Advice and Complaints Team
