I live on the south side of the Humber but after making a few enquiries and talking to several ex-patients I decide to have my op. done at Castlehill. After my first consultation with the surgeon it was agreed that due to the poor state of both of my knees they should be done at the same time. At my pre-op consultation the week before, I was very impressed as I was processed slightly earlier than my appointment time. Also I must mention the cleanliness of the hospital, the clean, crisp staff uniforms and general upbeat attitude of everyone I met. On op day I met the registrar, the aneasthetist and the surgeon prior to going down at 2pm. As it was quite a long op. I opted for the knockout drops and woke up around 8pm in the ward with my daughter in attendance. At all times during my recuperation on ward 9, the care and attention given by all members of staff could not have been better. The food was good, the tea was fresh and hot and the painkillers were were just what the doctor ordered. I was in a room with 4 single knees and a hip and on the Saturday night we had a discussion about the standard of treatment and care we had received at Castle Hill and none of us could think of anything to criticise or find any fault with. We decided a more suitable name would be the Castle Hilton. Whilst on the subject of the room I was in, I must thank the other members of Uncle's squad as it was an absolute pleasure and thoroughly enjoyable experience and I am sure the camaraderie and willingness to all help each other contributed greatly to my swift recovery. I was up and walking with a zimmer on the Sunday morning, on 2 sticks by Sunday afternoon and discharged on Monday evening. It is now 2 weeks since my op,the stitches are out and the exercises are going well. The right knee has completely healed but the left is taking a little longer. Another couple of days and I should be ready to bend and exercise in earnest. I cannot thank the surgeon enough, for what he has done for me as I have been suffering with these knees since the early 80s when I had big lumps of cartledge taken out because of playing football. Things may not go so well for some other patients as they did for me but I cannot praise Castle Hill enough. You're mission statement is spot on. Thank you.
