"MAU and Ward D1"

I was admitted to the mau with an infection. the dr who diagnosed the cause was fantastic, he was very thorough and asked all the right questions leading to an accurate diagnosis followed by prompt appropriate treatment. I was extremely weak and virtually unable to talk. The following day on mau a different dr came to review me, he asked me what had happened, baring in mind I was extremely weak I just about uttered the words 'sick' and ' high temperature' to that the dr said ' you have a virus, nothing we can do, no need for these fluids and antibiotics you are on, you're body will have to fix this itself. but we wont send you home until you feel ready'. To that the nurse then took off my drip and antibiotics and left! OMG I couldn't believe this, were they blind. I was left for 5 hours. I could feel myself sinking into the bed, I became feverish. I couldn't build the strength to reach the buzzer to get help. finally my nurse came. I uttered. 'I feel exhausted. my heart beat feels very heavy' (I thought my bp had dropped) to that she replied. ' Why dont you get up and watch TV. do something normal' and then walked out. ...an hour later she returned and said that the dr wants you back on fluids and antibiotics so she set it up again. I lay there and thanked god. within 15minutes I could see clearly again. a dr who didn't bother to read my notes a nurse who blatantly couldn't care less! As for ward D1 ...absolutely filthy. virtually no communication, no order. what is the point of patient notes if you dont read them. unknown to the staff I was a 'medical health professional' patient, my drip was left capped on several occasions. i uncapped it myself on numerous occasions, theyd forget to give me my medicine on time. I just wont bother commenting on how they 'disinfect' the ward. no blankets on this ward either. I could write a book on all the things ive seen here. my view ...the staff need more clinical training ...they need to be more observant, compassionate. this includes the more senior nurses! You have chose this profession so please do it justice. I have seen a few very good nurses and drs. you should all aspire to be like these. and if not then your in the wrong profession because sick people rely on correct diagnosis, treatment. care and compassion!
