"I was made to feel I should take an appointment further away"

About: Telford referral and quality service (TRAQS)

It would have been helpful to be told what the options were at the start of the phone call, starting with the hospital nearest to where I live. I was first offered an appointment at a hospital an hour’s journey from where I live. The second option was a similar distance away.

I had to ask about what was available at the hospital two miles from where I live, and they were able to book an appointment with the hospital directly. I was made to feel that I should take one of the appointments elsewhere even though I did not know how I would get to the hospital.

In fact, an appointment was sent by letter for my local hospital for less than the 12 weeks TRAQS said it might take them to contact me.

I am sorry that you appear to be disappointed with the overall service provided to you.

TRAQS was established in June 2012 at the request of GPs in the Telford and Wrekin area to ensure that all patients receive a choice of where to attend for their first out patient appointment when being referred by their GP for further care.

When contacting patients, TRAQS will always offer the earliest bookable appointment within a forty-mile radius of the patient's postcode. If there is a strain on a particular service at The Princess Royal Hospital or The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, TRAQS will always make the patient aware of the potential waiting time. As in many circumstances, the waiting times for particular hospitals can have have an influence upon the patient's choice of provider.
