"No Complaints Only Thanks"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology Hull Teaching PCT

(as a relative),

My daughter aged 17 came home complaining of stomach pains. When I looked at her stomach and saw how swollen it was I knew immediately something was wrong. We made an appointment with our GP at Greenwich Surgery on Monday. Our GP was as concerned as me and said he would arrange for a scan. He also arranged for blood tests to be done the next morning.

He rang my daughter at home, to say she had an appointment for a scan on the Wednesday morning at another local surgery, Marfleet Group Practice, which was very convenient. They rang through to our GP on finding a cyst the size of a full term baby and he asked for us to go straight back to the surgery, where he contacted the hospital to request an urgent appointment.

At lunchtime the registrar rang our home, to ask us to go to the Women's Outpatient Dept for an appointment at 4.30 that same afternoon. All of the staff in each place were absolutely brilliant. They were kind, reassuring and extremely caring. What a great health service we have when it works like that. I doubt we could've received better treatment even if we'd gone private.

I have had not so good experiences in the past but this has definitely restored my faith. I am full of praise for all involved.

We have been referred for an emergency MRI and are just waiting for an appointment, so that the consultant has the information he needs to go ahead with the surgery. I'm just hoping that this appointment comes through soon. Watch out for part 2 of our story which I hope is as positive!

Dear eps,

Thank you for the positive comments you have raised on this website about your experiences with local health services.

We have forwarded your kind words on to the GP Practice and the hospital trust and have asked them to ensure that your thanks are passed on to the staff involved.

In addition it is pleasing to note that the extra services put in place for scans more locally for our residents worked so well for your daughter. This information will inform our future plans for services.

NHS Hull is the organisation responsible for deciding how much money is spent on local health services (also known as commissioning), ensuring those services are of high quality and meet local needs. Therefore all feedback is valued.

Thank you again for taking the time to post your comments on the website and we also hope your subsequent experiences were as positive as this one.
