"On Wednesday I attended ward M1 ..."

About: Clatterbridge Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

On Wednesday I attended ward M1 as a day patient for foot surgery. I was informed that I was number 5 on the list for sugery. At 09:30 I was informed that I had been moved to number 3 on the list and that number 2 had already gone down. As the morning progressed I developed a headache having not taken any food or drink for over 15 hours, I was prescribed paracetamol and a sip of water. By 1:30 in the afternoon I was still waiting for surgery my headache being worse. I was given more paracetamol and told that I was know bottom of the list and the situation would be reviewed at 3:30 as I was showing signs of dehydration. I was eventually taken for sugery at 4:15. Following sugery I was sick and kept overnight. By 7pm my family became concerned and contacted the ward at 7pm to be told that I was being kepy overnigh because I was being sick. At 7:30 the following day I was informed that I could go home after seeing the physio. I eventually left at 11:15. Having been on the ward as a day patient for over 27 hours.

What could be improved

Better communication between staff and patient.

Communication between staff and family.

Anything else?

The staff on ward M1 work very hard and are very efficient however, I think lack of communication between ward staff and surgeon could be improved.
